Newcomer’s Info Sheet
Welcome to Veritas Prep Academy!
FAQ’s & Things to Know to Get Started: A Newcomer’s Info Sheet from the Veritas Parent Service Organization (VPSO)
School Supplies
- Teacher Supply Lists: On the first day of school, bring a few supplies to class: most kids use 2 3-subject notebooks, one for classes before lunch and one for after. Bring pencils, pens & eraser. You may purchase all school supplies via Edukit. Edukit orders are due June 10th. School supply lists will also be available on the VPA website, www.veritasprepacademy.org. During the first week of school, your student’s teachers will let them know what supplies are needed for each class.
Consumable Books School Supplies
In addition to textbooks (which are already in your student’s locker), students use Consumable Books, paperbacks like Treasure Island that the students are encouraged to highlight and annotate. As a charter school, the school is responsible for providing all books cost-free. However, the school encourages families to purchase these books to build a family library and so the students can really engage in annotating them.
- If you would prefer that the school incur the cost of providing them to you, call the Front Office to make arrangements.
- Consider purchasing or donating Used Books: this year’s dates are listed on our calendar, or watch for dates in VPSO newsletter or posters at school.
- You can buy them individually or in a bundle from Barnes & Noble, just give them the school name.
- There’s a link to buy them individually or in a bundle from Amazon- coming soon!
Driving
- Traffic: Pickup & Dropoff can take several minutes or more, especially the first few weeks of school. For a traffic map, see the school website here.
- Carpooling: A map of all families in the directory is typically issued about the 5th week of school as all family info is compiled. You can use the map to see families nearby and reach out for carpooling. Please email PSOPresident@veritasprepacademy.org to receive this private map.
- Pickup/Dropoff & Campus Times: The school campus opens at 7:10 AM and closes at 3:30 PM on regular school days. If your student is not in an activity, they should not be at the school beyond these times. The school offers a Homework Club too.
Uniforms
- For the Family Handbook, Dress Code see the school website for most recent versions.
- Used Uniforms are regularly available through the Veritas Closet throughout the year. Please consider donating any time as your student grows!
- To purchase during school year, watch the PSO calendar & newsletter for dates. If you have an urgent need, please contact the Front Office and they will assist you.
- Donations can be dropped at the Front Office anytime, or there are Donation Drives on the calendar each year.
- Contact info for the PSO Chair of Veritas Closet, as well as costs for uniform items, can be found on the PSO website here.
Mentors & Parent Liaisons
- Student Mentors are available several times in the beginning of the year for New Students. Your student will be introduced to their specific mentor at Orientation, and then additional availabilities will be scheduled with notifications from the school.
- In past years, each Grade Level has had volunteer Grade Level Parents, historically called Homeroom Parents. They assisted with communication, representing parents at meetings, planning social events and organizing student fundraising for events. We’ve retired that system in favor of more streamlined communications and utilizing our volunteer resources to build more community and social activities.
- You are a member of the PSO! We hope to see you at PSO meetings, and we’re excited to welcome your student & family to our community!
Communications
- Make sure you receive emails from any address @VeritasPrepAcademy.org. Both the school and VPSO will contact you from addresses at that domain.
- Watch for VPSO’s biweekly newsletter, called The Falcon Flyer, every other Sunday from FalconFlyer@VeritasPrepAcademy.org
- Check out the chalkboards at dropoff or the bulletin boards in the lunchroom for the highlights of the weekly newsletter.
- The school also sends a newsletter, once a week on Wednesday’s. Theirs is about school, administrative, and college counseling while ours (the Falcon Flyer from the PSO) is more about community life, social events, and PSO-driven activities.

Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night at Veritas Prep is a unique experience that you don’t want to miss. Parents attend mini sessions of their student’s typical classes. Both parents are encouraged to attend, especially if you have more than one child at the school: you could split up to choose between the children’s schedules- for example, at 1st period you could choose to go to Johnny’s class, 2nd period to Sally’s class, then 3rd period Johnny’s, etc. The date for Curriculum Night is posted on the school website at the beginning of each year.
